About the Artist
Offwhyte is a Filipino-American lyricist and producer proficient in making hip hop music that is solid and innovative. His poetic style, futuristic sound and high-energy performances have gained him the attention of a worldwide audience. Urb magazine described his 2000 debut CD Squints as 'an ingenius album', and with the release of his second full-length album, The Fifth Sun, he is set to make a significant and lasting impression on the hip hop community.

A co-founder of the Chicago-based label Galapagos4, Offwhyte helped to coordinate the recording and production of the label's first release, The Blackbook Sessions EP. Squints by Offwhyte was released shortly after, with production by Open i, Anacron and Offwhyte. As Galapagos4's first full-length CD, Squints was met with great critical acclaim. The Village Voice described it as 'free-floating intelligence' and HipHopInfinity.com listed Offwhyte as one of their top 50 emcees of the year.

Other exclusive Offwhyte tracks are featured on Molemen presents: Chicago City Limits Vol. I, DJ WhiteLightning Exposes White On White Crime, and the soon-to-be-released compilation album The Chicago Project.

Offwhyte is currently touring with DJ Dr. Jones in support of his new album The Fifth Sun, available November 2002 on Galapagos4 and Agenda (Peacefrog) Records.

Album Description
Offwhyte's new album The Fifth Sun is some serious hip hop. Backed by the momentum of Galapagos4's incredible stream of releases since the 2000 release of his debut CD Squints, Offwhyte returns with a fourteen track album that will break the necks of hip hop heads and challenge the feeble-minded.

The album's first single, "High Fidelity" has gained airplay across the country and has been heralded by critics as showing a new, 'evolved' Offwhyte, and the rest of The Fifth Sun is sure to follow in that tradition.

Delving deeper into his abilities as a songwriter, Offwhyte instantly shows his skills as a lyricist have gained a greater breadth on the intro track, a post-apocalyptic fable entitled 'the merchant'. The poetics get even deeper in the songs that follow, such as the brave new world-inspired "Beta Alpha" and the confessional "Complex Destiny". Other highlights include the uptempo crowd-pleaser "Ups" and Offwhyte's collaborations with Typical Cats emcees Qwel (on "Masonry") and Qwazaar (on "Get a Hold").

The Fifth Sun's production is top-notch, with beats handled by Meaty Ogre ,Open i, Alias of Anticon, the late Chicago producer Metrognome, and Offwhyte himself. The album is sprinkled with minimal live instrumentation and scratching by Dallas Jackson and DJ Norman Rockwell of the Pacifics.
