About the Artist
As a principal songwriter for the Minneapolis-based acoustic act Sugar Marie, Paula Murray gained a reputation as a complex and ironic songwriter in the Midwest acoustic circuit. When both her marriage and band fell apart in 1997 she accepted the couch of a friend who had recently relocated to San Francisco and began a long slow process of writing and recording her solo debut. Two years later "I Wasn't Waiting For You" is an intimate collection of insightful pop songs from the light-hearted to the tragic.
Ralph Spight: Guitar, Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals
Kevin Carnes: Drums, Percussion, Backing Vocals
Album Description
"I Wasn't Waiting For You" is an intimate collection of insightful pop songs featuring the bare-bones bass playing and sultry vocals of Paula Murray, the innovative jazz/groove style of drummer Kevin Carnes (Brown Fellinis), and the cut and paste antics of guitarist Ralph Spight (Hellworms, Victims Family). Ranging from uptempo pop to funk to smoky late-night vibes, this auspicious debut posits Ms. Murray as a contending singer/songwriter who cuts across many genres.
