Editorial Reviews Then, in late 1996, Holly was rushed to the hospital with what appeared to be an intense case of the Flu, but turned out to be the beginning of a two-year emotional and physical odyssey. She fell into a coma and was hurriedly diagnosed with Endocarditis, a severe heart infection that threw her body into unimaginable trauma. After a week of unconsciousness, she was lucky enough to awake and begin a slow process of recovery. She lost her hair, lost function of all her muscles, had learn to walk all over again. It was this shock to the system that brought about a profound change and focus in Holly's music. The intense honesty, the feelings of longing and inspiration, the drive to uncover and understand her own inner needs were the result of a "broken heart" and became the genesis of her work to this day. The music that came out of the period following Holly's illness makes up the bulk of the content of her first self-produced CD, City Girl. In collaboration with the extensive artistic vision of award-winning producer and arranger Chris Horvath, Holly was lucky enough to enlist the talents of many well-seasoned musicians. These include: guitarist, Kevin Barry (Paula Cole, Jonatha Brooke); Nick Vincent (Hanson, Frank Black, Tito and Tarantula); Lance Morrison (Don Henley, Rod Stewart, Alanis Morrisette); Mark Harris (Stevie Nicks, Ben Taylor) and Mark Lennon (Phil Collins, Cher, Venice.) Over the last decade, Holly has built a strong following, appearing solo and with supporting musicians on the Los Angeles coffeehouse/club circuit and is currently planning a full-band West Coast tour along with a similarly focused AAA radio campaign. About the Artist
HOLLY LONG is a dynamic singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles. Born in Chicago, Holly learned to play piano on her great-grandmother's upright Hamilton starting at age 7. In 1988, she moved to California to attend UCLA, and over the next 8 years, Holly scribbled lyrics on the backs of bar napkins, pink "While-you-were-out" memos, and the call-sheets for various acting gigs.
