Editorial Reviews These tracks, recorded at Tollefson's home studio, were digitally edited, treated, and finally mastered by M. Griffin at Hypnos ChromaStatic II studio. The resulting product combines the best spontaneous and intimate aspects of low-tech recording, with the sonic richness and control possible with today's digital audio workstations. A truly exciting recording, and perhaps the most adventurous thing Hypnos has yet released. New Eyes on the Universe moves from the serenely beautiful, to cold, alien weirdscapes, all without breaking stride.

About the Artist
As one half of Hypnos Recordings duo Viridian Sun, David Tollefson began his exploration of the use of treated electric guitar as a sound source for unusual ambient textures and rich sonic atmospheres. Here, on the most dramatically varied project yet in the Hypnos catalog, Tollefson continues his journey into the possibilities of the guitar as a sound source.
Album Description
New Eyes on the Universe ranges from ultra-minimal ambient drones, to bizarre looped experiments, to surveillance of alien craft through high-sensitivity guitar-based sound receiving equipment. This one ventures into new territory on every track, at one turn soothingly beautiful, at the next jolting, bracing, new and strange. Listeners who respond to musicality will find plenty of that here, and at the same time, more adventurous sonic explorers will find deep, dark aural spaces to mine.
