About the Artist
Emilio Barreto began his apprenticeship with a drum and guiro group headed by Anthony "Olukushe" Wiles of the International African Ballet. In 1979, he was initiated as a Priest of Obatala and has gone on to officate at hundreds if ceremonies for many respects elders of Santeria. Mt Barreto has participated in international conferences which include the Worldwide Orisha Conference in Brazil and has recently been asked to protray the role of Santero in a production called "Capeman" By Paul Simom and Derrick Walcott.
