Green On Red frontman Dan Stuart has been blessed/cursed with the moaning, abrasive voice of the archetypal rocker. With no real technique but plenty of heart, he can't sing a note but boy can he sing--like a cross between Lou Reed and Neil Young had taken singing lessons from Bob Dylan--and he's backed by a band that pulls from similar influences, twisting touches of gospel organ with Howlin' Wolf blues and distorted, Creedence swamp rock. "We're All Waiting," the album's aching finale, sounds like a tent revival that's been taken over by a rock band looking for just one reason to get up in the morning. --David Cantwell
