Like Hasil Adkins , Cordell's music is primitivism so erratic that it goes beyond raw rock energy.
Album Description
Live and in person, Cordell Jackson, "the Grandmother of Rock and Roll" has captured four decades of raw rockabilly reverance on "Cordell Jackson, Live in Chicago". Born in Mississippi and rooted in Memphis TN, Cordell Jackson is a resounding example of rock and roll tenacity. Inspired by her father, Cordell is an accomplished instrumentalist, excelling at guitar, harmonica, bass, and piano. In 1947, she became the first female recording engineer in the United States. After seven years of writing and recording demos with her friend Sam Phillips, at Sun Studios, she established her own record label, Moon Records. This CD, recorded live at Schubas with no overdubs, is a collection of hot throbbin hillbilly blues, done in the classic "Cordell" style.
