About the Artist
Never strangers to controversy, many of the Lickets records are considered by the "powers that be" too suggestive for the masses, and they are sometimes consequently banned. How anybody could judge Smith's and Greer's tongue-in-cheek instrumental delivery to be dangerous to the morals of the young is hard to believe.
Album Description
The Lickets' debut CD, Beginner's Guide to the Lickets, provides not one word of explanation on the sleeve, but the lack of information does not detract from this instrumental album, best described as a bizarre analog electronic film score. The album's intimate approach blends acoustic instrumentation with ambient drones, hypnotic loops, and Bachrach style pop in a lo-fi texture that sounds like a lost AM radio broadcast in an alternate dimension of 1973.
