Shine!

Much like those old K-Tel Records compilations of the past, Shine! collects today's "hottest" stars and puts them all together in one spot. Well, in this case it takes a sampling of artists from its Universal Music Group roster and puts them on one CD in the hope that you'll discover more of their bands that way. For everyone who's already familiar with Garbage, there's somebody who has yet to learn about Republica. This collection isn't a bad place for the novice or casual fan to start. It features a wide cross-section of bands, from techno poster boy Moby to cheeky popsters Supergrass to sensitive punkers Sublime. Several frontline bands, such as Britain's Blur and New Jersey's Monster Magnet, surrender quality tunes to the cause. It's also listed as Issue No. 1, indicating that future editions are more than likely. Just like K-Tel! --Rob O'Connor
