About the Artist
The Alpha Conspiracy was started in early 2001, as an outlet for Austin-based synthesist/programmer Andrew Sega. The first release, "Cipher", was well-received, even prompting Splendid magazine to call it "... easily one of the best electronic releases of the past year". An split EP with the Low Technicians followed shortly thereafter. In 2002, Andrew took a break to join the electro-pop group Iris. With vocalist Reagan Jones, they produced the band's highly succesful sophomore release, "Awakening". The record received rave reviews from magazines such as Outburn, Orkus, Side-Line, and Zillo, and the band is preparing to go on tour with charttopping German act De/Vision in late January 2004. He also beat out 400 other musicians to win Nettwerk's remix contest for the new Delerium album, "Chimera". His mix of the first single, "After All", is featured on the North American release of the album. Through all of this, he continued to create songs for the next Alpha Conspiracy record. "I wanted to create a strongly emotional statement," says Andrew, "even while using modern production techniques. I wanted it to have both attitude and warmth, evoke flickers of an alternate world. There's a lot of diversity in the songs, but that's really just a representation of how broad the sphere of electronic music has become."
Album Description
2004 brings us the second release from the electronica project The Alpha Conspiracy. "Aura" is a complex, textured record, which combines elements of many electronica styles (IDM, trip-hop, nu-breaks, industrial) into a moody, powerful whole. Following the path laid down by such bands as Underworld, Plaid, and Meat Beat Manifesto, "Aura" is an exploration of the boundary between pop structure and abstract, rhythmic, soundscapes.
