13 Ribs

Editorial Reviews
Rolling Stone
"The album is an intriguing, musically cohesive 13 song cycle that becomes fully realized in its midsection. Softly sensual." Three stars.

The Morning News of NW Arkansas
"Voelz creates a near-mystical experience on this fascinating album."

Album Description
Best known as the violinist in Poi Dog Pondering, Susan Voelz has in fact performed with a wide cross section of other musicians and bands. The list begins with Arthur Brown, meanders through Jerry Jeff Walker and the Dead Milkmen, pauses at Michelle Shocked and Robin Hitchcock, and winds up at John Mellencamp. In between these jaunts and touring with Poi Dog, susan came up with the bits and pieces that coelesced into the lyrics and music on her debut solo release, 13 Ribs.

13 Ribs is a study in contradictions. The first few minutes are decidedly not rock and roll, but just wait; a few more minutes into the cd and the sharp songwriting and arrangements begin to show that Susan can rock if she wants to or play simply and beautifully in the same song. A very playful and emotional album.

Band Members: Susan Voelz - violin, vocals, many guests and musicians
