Grand Prix

Armed with a sharp new drummer and outside producer David Bianco (Pixies, Tom Petty), the three veteran members of Glasgow, Scotland's Teenage Fanclub were determined to redeem themselves after 1993's wretched flop, Thirteen. Grand Prix, the group's fourth full album, is fresher, more direct and less cluttered than its predecessor, but it fails to match the grungy exuberance of the band's debut or the Big Star jangle of 1991's Bandwagonesque, which remains its best effort. --Jim DeRogatis
