Today I Am Lovable: 365 Positive Activities for Kids
Editorial Reviews
Joy Hill, New Age Retailer, November/December 1997
"This book was written to give children aged six to eleven an enjoyable way to learn to think positively about themselves and their world. The author, Diane Loomans, speaks nationally on parenting, creativity, and self-esteem. She is the author of The Lovables in the Kingdom of Self-Esteem, a best-selling children's book.
Today I am Lovable is organized on a day-by-day basis with each day's entry offering a game, riddle, or suggestion that is then tied to the 'Thought for the Day.' Opening randomly to May 16, we read, 'Roberta was afraid of her ornery school coach until she used zap power! She imagined that she zapped her coach down to the size of a pea in her hand. It helps her stay calm and shrink her problems down to size. Try it. Thought for the Day: When I feel stressed, I will use my imagination to help me stay relaxed.'
The ideas are constructive and often amusing, and the affirmations well phrased for youngsters. The real audience is probably Sunday school teachers who will find a wealth of material to enrich their weekly class. In fact, Today I am Lovable probably should be in every Sunday school library in multiple copies. The book also would make an excellent Christmas gift for a teacher, a church, or anyone else who deals with children who have less than their share of love and confidence. In small doses, with gentle adult guidance, this book could be a lifesaver."
LSS, Napra Review, Summer 1996
"Lots (365, to be exact) of fun, creative, and educational activities and "brain food" for children ages 6-12. An example: May 4 tells about Picasso and cubism, beginning with the quotation: "I paint objects as I think them, not as I see them," followed by the thought for the day: 'I will be bold like Picasso and show my own style.' Other activities include using similes to give compliments, writing yourself a letter about your hopes and dreams to be opened in five years, and decoding secret messages. There are fun, fast, and easy self-esteem builders for pre-teens."
