About the Artist
It's been said by more than one person that Tony Koussa, Jr. has the soul and technique of a musician beyond his years. Tony picked up the saxophone in the 5th grade, and seemed to get better pretty quickly. Ok, Really quickly! Tony started playing professionaly at the age of 12. He was playing 2-3 nights a week with a local cleveland blues band. The band Tony was with scored a deal with Budweiser and he had to leave the band. The beer giant did not like the idea of a 12 year old promoting alcohol. So, Tony went off and did his own thing. He teamed up with local legends, E.T. King (formerly back-up singer for Wilson Pickett), and Frank "Silk" Smith (Nationally known guitarist), in an R&B project: The Kid & the King. They were nominated twice for best R&B band. Tony, now 16, still plays on an average 3 gigs a week, doing jazz, funk, blues, rock, pretty much any genre you can think of. Tony just recently gained the title, BEST SAX PLAYER IN CLEVELAND, at the Cleveland 2000 Music Awards.
