About the Artist
Barry Perkins is originally from Rochester N.Y., but grew up in southern California. He started playing trumpet at the age of 5 under the instruction of his father, William Perkins. By the end of high school he was winning awards and auditions in both classical and jazz music. Barry continued his studies at the New England School of Music and later won a job as Assistant Principal Trumpet in the Mexico City Philharmonic. After 5 years there he came to San Diego where he now plays frequently with the San Diego Symphony, Opera and Chamber Orchestra. Barry can be heard on several classical as well as jazz recordings. This CD is his latest creation focusing on the mellow, romantic sound of the Flugelhorn.
