About the Artist
Keith Barry is a unique and versatile multi-instrumentalist. He plays the Viola,the saxophone,the clarinet the flute and the cornet. He is also a prolific arranger and composer.Born in New York city, Keith moved to Los Angeles in 1977 where, at the age of thirteen he became a serious student of music after hearing a record of Charlie Parker. In addition to his study of jazz, Keith studied traditional Viola technique and repertoire with noted teachers Norman Botnick and Roland Kato. Keith was accepted to the Berklee school of music in Boston in 1980. While at Berklee he met and played with many of the young lions of jazz who were also in attednance including Branford Marsalis, Smitty Smith,Jeff Watts, Wallace Roney, Scott Robinson and many others. Keith has worked in a very wide variety of professional situations. He has appeared with jazz greats Wooky Shaw, Sweets Edison,Les Mcann, Teddy Edward and Leroy Vinnegar. Keith's recording credits include numerous film and television scores as will as appearances as a soloist on pop recordings. He is featured on the CD's The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mothers Milk and One Hot Minute by the rock group Red Hot Chile Peppers, with whom he has toured the world several times.
