For this record, I wanted to come up with tunes that would be more interesting to play, with more attention given to both counterpoint and the development of harmonic movement. At the same time I was ready to toss structure out the window if it became necessary. As it turned out several changes were made during the recording session in both directions – that is, deleting what was superfluous and adding what was needed. For this I must thank all the musicians, especially Eddie Gomez in particular, for their keen interest and impeccable judgement throughout this process. Finally, I would like to add that the degree of sensitivity of everyone in their interplay with each other on this record was quite remarkable. I am deeply grateful to them — my favorite musicians on this planet earth.
