Harry Porterfield ABC-TV Flutist, composer, and arranger Michael Mason celebrates the release of his 4th Southport CD, "ANGELS OF FIRE." The life of a man or woman is mirrored with the artists musical expression that evolves like time. In essence this new CD is a tone poem of jazz and new music forms, embracing very diverse musical sources. The social theme of this CD is the profound tragedy that happened in Chicago at Our Lady Of The Angels school, when a fire destroyed many children and adults in 1958. Michael was a student and survivor of the fire and became a professional fireman. His work as a fireman moves with his work as a musical artist. This CD is dedicated to the lasting inspiration gained from one of life's tragedies. The list of musicians on this project is impressive and includes: Kirk Brown, Ernest Dawkins, Enoch Williamson, Harrison Bankhead, Yosef Ben Israel, Steve Berry, Avreeayl Ra, Geoff Lowe, Vincent Davis, Darrius Savage, Aras Biskis, Jackie Moran, David Rush, Sean Ryan and Scott Ashley. Massive and subtle sound forces move under the direction of Mason, creating a symphony of sound and form. Of special note is track 4, "The Light, The Heat," a bold canvas that moves in sheets of sound that challenge the listener with its power and beauty. Angels Of Fire memorial CD was made possible through a grant from and in association with The Illinois Fire Safety Alliance.
