Sara Schoenbeck, bassoon; Travis Baker, bass. The first major landmark for this duo was the great four day improvisation music series, Time Flies, held annually in Vancouver. This featured Baker and Schoenbeck alongside some of the world’s foremost improvisors, including Wayne Horvitz, Peggy Lee & Gino Robair. From the first note together it was apparent that Baker & Schoenbeck shared an intuitive connection and a commitment to a similar improvisatory language. Following the Time Flies series, they went into the studio to document their development. The depth and richness of the unique combination of bassoon and doublebass lends credence to the duo’s commitment to the expansion of the vocabulary and voice of their respective instruments. If you believe that low end is where it’s at, this is the place!
