About the Artist
A contemporary jazz saxophonist/keyboardist who writes and performs his music. "Norman's" compositions range in the scope from infectious rhythmic stews to lush melodic embraces which connect him to the listener. This letter of introduction is but a brief historical chronical of the musician/composer "Norman Evans". I fully understand the relative skepticism we operate on, and the need to be a "healthy skeptic" in this day and age. However, the music you hear on this CD and the live performance of the compositions will grab your heart and inspire your inner voice. "Norman Evans" writes songs that draw people together, all people and all age groups. The constant commentary regarding "Norman" ranges from, 'Wow, he played all of that', to 'Why isn't he signed to a major label?'. The latter statement I cannot begin to answer myself. It would take a modest addition of the Sunday 'New York Times' to list the other positive comments regarding "Norman" (both of him as a person and his music). This is not another false hype offering, "Norman" is the genuine article. Originally from Connecticut, "Norman" has been performing his brand of contemporary jazz as a solo artist since 1991. Reared in New Haven CT, the associated musicians read like a brief who's who in Contemporary Jazz. They are as follow: Joey Melotti; musical director for Michael Bolton, Morris Pleasure; musical director for "Earth, Wind and Fire", Ron Lawrence, Marion Meadows and a host of other talented musicians who played the Connecticut circuit. (New Haven was at one time jumpin' with talent.) In January of 1996 "Norman" relocated to Maryland and continued to cultivate fans of his music and perform with the area's best. "Norman" has opened for a number of national artists: Spyro Gyra, George Howard, Pieces of a Dream, Gerald Alston, Miles Jaye, and recently signed N2K Encoded Music artist: Marcus Johnson, as well as performed on the local television talk show with in the Maryland region. I am confident that once you review: "Norman Evans'" package, you will find him an artist who deserves to be on a national platform. The musical prognosticators are acknowledging the growing market for Contemporary Jazz. Now it is called 'Smooth Jazz' and "Norman's" music is all the above and more. Enjoy the music. Sincerely, Ms. Pamela M. Fowler, Dis Who? Productions
Product Description
Twilight Cool, simmering jazz from an original artist. Mr. Evans recording exudes a positive vibe with a subtle backbeat and a family groove. He plays all instruments Saxophone, keyboards, drum/percussion machines, and something called a "wind controller." Its great music and I imagined the first few songs fitting properly as soundtrack work. Which is by no means a negative comment, especially if you apply the adage "music for the soundtrack of your life." The only minor negative is my wanting to hear Mr. Evans play with a live band. To imagine that aural energy is simply a mindgame compared to what a fantastic sensual vibration the real thing could be. Mr. Evans tours widely, opens for some well-known artists (Spyro Gyra, Gerald Alston, and others. He is getting some airplay, and if you visit his site you can see a video clip and purchase his CDs. Hes good
hes very good.Mr. Evans lives in the Maryland area, so keep your eyes open for an Evans experience if youre ever out that way. And keep your ears open for the mans vibe, cause it cooks. - Del Harvey
