Grover Mitchell was first trombonist in the Count Basie Orchestra from 1962-70 and 1980-84. He has led the Basie Orchestra since 1995.

This first-time CD release is comprised of two LPs recorded between 1978 and 1980. Along with brilliant writing and arranging by Mitchell, his big band includes major Basie musicians Al Aarons and Henry Coker, plus Britt Woodman from Duke Ellington's orchestra. The album also features major West Coast musicians Buddy Collette and Red Callender.
