About the Artist
Singer-songwriter, speaker and professor, Ken Tangen is not your average crooner. Singing is only one of his talents. As he puts it: "I sing and write songs. If you like the way I sing, I'm a singer-songwriter. If you hate my voice but like my songs, I'm a songwriter-singer. And if you hate both my singing and my songwriting, I'm a speaker. Professor Tangen’s Great Gospel Tour is a short history of American Gospel music. There are "field-hollers" and spirituals, brass bands, Dixieland, Blues, and folk music from across the country. Each song tells a bit of the story of how Gospel music acquired its great diversity and huge popularity.

The arrangements are by jazz pianist Mark Davidson. You’ll love Mark & Ken on "I’ll Fly Away". And you’ve gotta hear "Amazing Grace" with Kenny G’s percussionist Ron Powell laying down African drum rhythms. On other tracks you’ll hear the trombone of Art Dragon (leader of Disneyland’s Dixieland band) and the drumming of Stevie D (just off his tour with David Crosby).
