About the Artist
Peter Calandra is a New York City-based composer and keyboard player.
He has scored 5 movies including: Down By The Tracks (2003 independent feature film), 13th Child: Legend Of The Jersey Devil (2002 Painted Zebra Productions), Between 2 Worlds (2002 independent short film, CMJ and Globalfest 2002 selection) , As Luck Would Have It (2002 independent comedy short), Roadside Hustle (independent comedy) as well as two documentaries for A&E and the BBC.
He has written over 450 compositions for television including music composed for NBCs broadcast of the 2000 Summer and 2002 Winter Olympic Games. His music has also been heard on many other television shows including Good Morning America, All My Children, The Today Show, Access Hollywood, Operation Junkyard, The Bachelor, Americas Most Wanted, The NFL on FOX, The NBA and WNBA on NBC, Showtime, MTV and CNN. Peter has also scored over 20 industrial videos for Pfizer, Pepsi, NYNEX, Kodak, Spencer Trask and other corporations.
His Preludes for Saxophone and Piano was performed by Lukas Foss and Larry Rivers during the Willem DeKooning Memorial at The Museum Of Modern Art in NYC. He is currently writing a suite for piano and flute commissioned by Kathleen Nester of the New Jersey Symphony.
As a performer, Peter spent 10 years playing the piano chair for the Broadway production of Miss Saigon. He also toured the U.S.A playing Keyboard 1 with Les Miserables and played in the Broadway Production of Phantom Of The Opera. He also served as Pianist/Conductor and Musical Director for the award winning NYC production of Little Shop of Horrors. Peter has performed or recorded with Susan Anton, Micheal Bolton, Don Cherry, Aretha Franklin, Allen Ginsberg, Annie Golden, Lillianne Montevecchi and the artist/musician Larry Rivers.
Peter has a Masters Degree in Music Composition from Queens College, CUNY where he studied with Thea Musgrave, George Perle, Jimmy Heath and Sol Berkowitz.
