Built specifically for business road warriors, the remanufactured corporate-class IBM ThinkPad T30 is a lightweight, affordable notebook PC that helps you get the job done wherever you roam. The notebook is ideal for people who value solid function and a reasonable price, as it's not loaded with the extras of many of its contemporaries, but just enough to keep you humming along. The laptop is built around a 1.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4-M (Mobile) processor that offers plenty of speed for today's projects, though its speed lags behind many newer notebooks with the same processor. However, thanks to its Mobile features, the processor saves power when it's not needed, thus preserving battery life. The computer also includes 256 MB of installed RAM to get you started, though more will likely be necessary to handle multimedia applications and business productivity suites (1 GB max capacity). Furthering the affordability theme is the 40 GB hard drive, which--though once gigantic--is now one of the smallest hard drives you'll find in the latest computers. However, it offers more than enough room for home productivity software, storing family photos, and maintaining a decent-sized digital audio library.
The ThinkPad T30's video and graphics are powered by the ATI Radeon 7500 card (AGP 4x) with 16 MB of video RAM, which provides a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels on the 14.1-inch screen and 2048 x 1536 pixels on an external monitor. The notebook also features an integrated SoundBlaster 16/Pro-compatible audio card with headphone and microphone jacks. To ensure that you have access to CDs and DVD movies while on the road, IBM included a DVD-ROM drive. The drive offers an ideal way to bring along additional data or audio/video files when on a business trip, while also letting you travel even lighter by removing it and leaving it at home. Rounding out the peripheral set is a standard 86-key keyboard and electrostatic two-button touchpad mouse.
Additional features include an integrated 56k modem and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 gigabit Ethernet connection to networks and DLS cable modems); a rechargeable lithium ion battery with a 3.2-hour battery life; two USB 2.0 ports for connecting to digital cameras, MP3 players, and other peripherals; and such jacks as an S-video out, a VGA monitor port, two PCMCIA (PC card) slots (Type I/II), a serial port, and a parallel port. Note, however, that the ThinkPad T30 does not come with pre-installed WiFi compatibility.
The ThinkPad T30 comes with a preinstalled Windows XP operating system and measures 12 by 1.5 by 9.8 inches (W x H x D). And at 5.7 pounds, it won't weigh you down while strolling through airports or city streets. And as with all remanufactured items, the ThinkPad T30 boasts a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.
