The Yamaha 16x10x40 external FireWire CD-RW drive lets you record and rewrite up to 700 MB of data or music on a disc. This external CD-RW drive can record on CD-R discs at the top speed of 16x, writing a 74-minute CD in less than five minutes. It rewrites CD-RW discs at the speed of 10x and reads CDs at a sustained maximum rate of 40x. In addition, the drive lets you rip CDs--convert CD music tracks to WAV and MP3 files for creating music CDs on a PC--at a speed of 40x, allowing digital audio extraction of a 74-minute audio disc in less than three minutes.
The drive's Pure Phase laser system, found exclusively in Yamaha products, reduces reflections and glare when CDs are recorded, resulting in fewer errors on the finished disc. Reliability is also increased through Optimum Write Speed Control, which automatically selects the best recording speed for a disc.
The FireWire connection provides simple installation, reliable performance, and fast recording speeds. Compatible with PCs running Windows 95 and higher and Macintosh computers with operating system 8.6 and higher, the Yamaha 16x10x40 External FireWire CD-RW comes with a one-year warranty.

The CRW2100 series features a newly developed laser pickup and control chip and new partial CAV recording technology, which enables a CD-R disc can be written in about five minutes. In rewriting mode, CRW2100 also supports the 4X-10X CAV mode, which enables high-speed random writing/reading of data, realizing floppy-disk-like ease of use when using high-speed CD-RW discs. In addition, the CRW2100 series allows extraction of digital audio from audio CD in about three minutes.High-quality as well as high-speed writing is ensured by the incorporation of Yamaha's proprietary Pure Phase Laser System. This function stabilizes the laser power and eliminates unwanted reflections and glare produced when recording a CD, resulting in more accurate recording. The drives provide enhanced prevention of buffer underrun with large memory buffer, double that of earlier models. They also incorporate features that ensure reliable recording onto a wide range of media, such as Running Optimum Power Calibration (ROPC) to ensure that optimum laser output power is adjusted for each disc, and an Optimum Write Speed Control function.
