This book examines how travel time is actively constructed in historic and contextualized transit practices. It analyzes case studies of travel in technological cultures, such as nineteenth century train excursions, car travel to US National Parks, air travel, and cycling in Dutch towns. New concepts are developed to evaluate mobility innovations.

About the Author
Dr. Peter Frank Peters (1960) is assistant professor at the Faculty of Arts & Culture of the University of Maastricht. He has published on time, mobility and travel in technological cultures. His research is concerned with the debates on public problems related to mobility and the assessment of innovations that are suggested to solve these problems. He also has conducted numerous contract research projects on mobility related issues, both for the Dutch government and the European Union.
