Book Description
Introduced in 1976, The Music Kit was the first to offer students an integrated learning environment for the fundamentals course. By encouraging students to be active learners and providing for varied learning styles, The Music Kit has continued to foster the development and mastery of the basic skills needed for further study in music. Students perform frequent exercises, listen to music while examining music scores, tap or clap along to recorded rhythms, and complete computerized tutorials, drills, quizzes, and ear training exercises that return personalized feedback and scores.

New to the Fourth Edition:

New Focus on Aural Skills
A complete, parallel course for elementary sight singing has been integrated into The Music Kit for the first time. Several new types of sight-singing exercises appear in the Rhythm Reader, and the most popular sight-singing methods are introduced in the Workbook. In addition, the Scorebook melodies have been ordered to accommodate a basic sight-singing curriculum, progressing from simple major to natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor, pentatonic, and other modes.

New End-of-Chapter Exercises in the Workbook
Review exercises at the end of every chapter reinforce those within the chapter and provide the synthesis necessary for mastering concepts. Exercises can be pulled out and submitted to the instructor.

Fully-tracked Audio CD
Fresh new digital recordings of the core rhythms employ a wide variety of percussion sounds. In addition, recordings of the twelve Scorebook pieces exemplify the different performance styles of folk, classical, pop, and jazz music.
